Lagos State Government has trained 703 youths in various vocations and entrepreneurship skills.
The programmes were aimed at enabling the youth to become self-reliant and employers of labour.
At the graduation ceremonies held at Rotary Vocational Training Centre, Igbogbo and Ideal Girls High School, Randle Avenue, Surulere for Sabo and Surulere Vocational Centres, Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Education, Tokunbo Wahab, said the nine-month training engaged the youth in activities that would make them contribute to the socio-economic development of the society.
Wahab, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, explained that various ongoing empowerment and entrepreneurship skills programmes embarked upon by the government, such as the Jobs Initiatives Lagos (JIL), Eko Digital Skills, Adult Literacy Education, and Vocational training among others were in tandem with the T.H.E.M.E.S.
His words: “As a proactive government, we have lined up empowerment programmes that will give Lagosians the opportunity to use their talents to contribute positively to the development of the state.”
He expressed the government’s worry about the level of destruction to public infrastructure during the last #EndSARS protest, adding that some unscrupulous individuals took advantage of youth restiveness to hijack the protest and engage in the destruction of public property.
Oba of Igbogbo, Oba Semiu Kasali, hailed the government for initiating programmes, maintaining that the effort would reduce crimes.
